Park Place Garden

Park Place Garden spans approximately 18,000 square feet and is located at 1500 32nd St. South on the grounds of Park Place Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. Individual plots measure about 300 square feet—ample space for a small family to grow fresh vegetables throughout the summer, often with extra to share.

The garden was established through a partnership with Park Place in 2008. In its early days, water access was simple but labor-intensive, requiring gardeners to haul a hose from the building. The following year, Ace Hardware enhanced the space by installing a central water line
with multiple hose connections, eliminating the need to share a single spigot. In later years, the system was further improved with the addition of drip irrigation, with plot-specific drip lines provided by River City Harvest.

Today, Park Place Garden showcases a vibrant mix of gardening styles and experience levels. New gardeners work alongside seasoned growers who are always willing to share guidance. While some follow traditional tilling and row-planting methods to grow flowers, vegetables or both, others use raised beds or experiment with Square Foot Gardening or Permaculture techniques. Regardless of the approach, our shared goal is to continually nourish the soil in order to produce the healthiest crops possible.

In addition to individual plots, the garden features a shared Herb Garden and a Serenity Garden,
both open to gardeners and the wider community.

For the 2026 season, a garden plot costs $70. A $40 cleanup deposit is also required and will be
refunded as long as your plot is cleared of all vegetable debris, fencing, and other materials when
you finish gardening.

Park Place Gardens is managed by Janice Driver and Deb Oleynik.

  • If you are contemplating having a plot in a Community Garden, I encourage you to take the leap! There are people to help you make your garden a success if you are uncertain. Just get in and dig in the dirt! Plant some seeds! Water a little, weed a little, and soon you’ll be enjoying a harvest! How rewarding is that?

  • Hi, we just moved here last summer, and it’s wonderful to see so many active gardens. I’ve met many of the friendly Park Place gardeners on my dog walking trips through the neighborhood. Are there any plots available? How can I apply for a plot there?
    Kind regards,

  • Would like to join River City Gardens. I live close to Park Place. Do you have a space there?
