No Kids Hungry – Seed Bomb Project

Every year River City Harvest does a gardening activity wit the No Kid Hungry program.  An initiative that the program has taken is to provide an activity to help reduce the stigma of getting the supplemental lunches during the summer.  Kids can attend an activity and get a free lunch while they are there.

This year we did seed bombs, and wow was it ever a success! We easily made 50 bombs that the kids and toss and grow!

Seed bombs consist of a air dry clay mix and compost mixed with seeds (the compost was made by a local gardener and the seeds donated by Bette Miller).

The balls need to sit out for 24 to 48 hours, to completely dry before they are ready to toss.

The drying happens at home, so they were sent home with a bag and instructions.

We had so much fun and the kids loved getting dirty! If you see some Guerrilla gardening out there you know where it came from.
