AmeriCorps Rocks! Literally

As a not for profit organization River City Harvest relies heavily on volunteers to help us provide some of the best community gardening in Great Falls.  Naturally when Dave from AmeriCorps contacted us about a volunteer day, we were over the moon!

We always have a long list of projects just waiting to get done.  Unfortunately Dave was only up here until the end of March, not exactly the ideal time to get out and do community gardening projects in Montana.

Not one to miss out on an opportunity the board members put their heads together and with a little weather cooperation we were able to find a number of projects at our Park Place gardens.

Sunday morning on March 16th an amazing group of AmeriCorps volunteers showed up and tackled our gardens.  They hauled approximately 2,000 tons, yes that’s right, 2,000 TONS of rock…the size of an elephant…

They picked up garbage…

They weeded…

and they sanded and stained our picnic table.

They were pretty much all around wonderful.  Thank you AmeriCorps volunteers!

Also thanks to our board members who went out in the gale force winds to help:

Janice Driver and her hubby Bob Driver, Lisa Halco and Jennifer Lightner.
